When Jeff wanted to perfect his pipes and puntys, he consulted glassblowers to find out what they wanted. He did the same kind of research for developing his line of jacks. Professional glassblowers said they wanted jacks like the Ivan Smith's and the old Italian jacks. Jeff determined to accomplish this goal. Jeff chose the finest quality spring steel for the blades. They are oval with sharpe edges, tappering to a slight point. These blades slide nicely on the glass. The Goblet Jack has round tapered blades with a slight edge, by the handle, for cutting in a jack line. Jeff chose half hard, cold worked, spring steel for the handles. This steel is partially heat treated, for springiness: then cold worked to keep it stiff. High-grade spring steel is susceptible to rusting. A special rust-preventative is used to treat the handles. This results in the distinctive appearance and consequently the name…Black Jacks. |
